POST GRADUATE CONVOCATION

As many as 350 post graduates and 45 University and college toppers were honoured at the 103rd Convocation of the college. The degree holders were from the fields of Agriculture, Commerce, Arts and Sciences.Hon’ble Justice M.M. Kumar, Judge of Punjab & Haryana Court delivered the Convocation Address. He encouraged the Students saying that it is dedication and sincerity that ultimately leads to success.”

   S.Satyajit Singh Majithia, President, Khalsa College Governing Council, welcomed the guests. He said that the presence of such towering luminaries as Justice Kumar and Justice Mittal would definitely inspire the students.

   Principal Dr. Daljit Singh, read out the Annual Report high lightling the achievements of the college in Academics, Sports, Cultural Events, N.C.C., N.S.S. Etc.  

GRADUATE CONVOCATION

“ The Purpose of higher education is larger than simply imparting knowledge and information  that qualifies one to earn a good salary and enrich oneself ”. This was the opinion of Prof. Mool Chand Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Central University, Haryana, in his Convocation Address at the 103rd Convocation. A total of 367 graduates in the disciplines of Science, Commerce, Arts, Agriculture, Biotechnology and Physiotherapy were awarded degrees, 35 University and college Toppers were honoured with medals.

    S. Satyajit Singh Majithia, President, Khalsa College Governing Council also graced the occasion. Describing the 103rd Convocation as a “historic day” he said that it was so because of the presence of two “Ideal Humanists” that is Prof. Sharma H.S. Mattewal.

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitely today said the country needs drastic reforms in the higher education to produce best of the minds to compete in the emerging competitive world. He said there is no place for mediocrity as it is akin to the failure and only the best of the lot can compete in the upcoming `cruel world’ of competitions.

 

Jaitely said this while presiding over the historic Khalsa College’s 106th annual Convocation here today where he distributed 530 degrees to the graduate and post-graduate students and also released a book, published by the College. Arun Jaitely who appreciated country’s progress in school education due to a strong private sector however felt concerned over College education in India not meeting up the world standards in research creation of jobs and added that a lot is to be done in the area.

 

``In this competitive world, only the best will survive. There are ample opportunities for all and one needs no big surnames to succeed in life, The siblings of big industrialists are failing in their family businesses and sons and daughters of common man on streets are tuning successful all over the world. This is the new world and we need to re-shape our education system at higher level also to meet the new challenge’’, he said.

 

 

Jaitely was earlier welcomed by Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) President Sardar Satyajit Singh Majithia, who praised him for his high intellect and being legal luminary of par-excellence. S. Majithia said that Khalsa College institutions take inspirations from the high ideals of Sikh Gurus and believe in imparting value education. He said it was due to his strong team in the Council that they were able to increase the educational institutions from three to 16 today.

 

Jaitely earlier showered praises on the majestic building of Khalsa College and recalled his childhood days when he used to keenly watch the building while passing through the GT Road in the vicinity and used to think it to be Palace of some royal king. ``Its grandeur building is the testimony to the high ideals and goals that Sikh intellectuals conceived when they built the College in 1892’’, said Jaitely.

 

KCGC Honourary Secretary S.Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina in his vote of thanks congratulated the students for getting the degrees from Arun Jaitely who is a philosopher-politician and whose intellect envies many in the national parliament and outside. He said the students must learn from the life history of Jaitely and work hard to achieve big in life. Khalsa College Principal Dr. Daljit Singh read the annual report describing achievements of the College and narrated major milestones accomplished by this great institution of learning in academics, sports, culture and other related matters including publication of books, conducting seminars and workshops and setting up new centres of learning. Dr. Daljit said they strive for excellence and thanked for his team of dedicated teachers, students and their parents for showing immense confidence in them.

 

The degrees were distributed to students coming from various streams including Science, Arts and Commerce. Those who were present during the function included Lok Sabha MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, Cabinet Minister Anil Joshi, MLA Ashwani Sharma, BJP leaders Captain Abhimanyu, Kamal Sharma, Mayor Shawet Malik, KCGC Joint Secretary Ajmer Singh Heir, Sardul Singh Mannan, PS Sethi, KCGC Members Anup Singh, BS Brar, Khalsa College of Education Principal Dr.Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, Khalsa College for Women Principal Dr.Sukhbir Kaur Mahal and Registrar Prof Baljinder Singh and many other dignitaries.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal stresses on quality education, distribute 500 degrees to students at Khalsa College’s 106th Annual Convocation, announces Rs.50 lakhs grants for Khalsa College Amritsar, April 29, 2012

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today stressed on `quality’ education, which he said was basic ingredient to take state to newer heights and sought government-private institutions’ partnership to make Punjab most literate state in country. He also urged educational institutions to frame new courses and curriculums to meet up with requirements of emerging professional-world of expertise, where only quality matters.

Badal was speaking at local Khalsa College’s 106th annual Convocation here today where he distributed 500 degrees to graduate students. He gave reference to history behind establishment of Khalsa College in 1892 by the then visionary leaders and said even today we need more and more institutions like this to cater the need of education. He lauded the grandeur architecture of the College building and appreciated College’s role in imparting the value education to the society.

CM who announced a grant of Rs.50 lakh for Khalsa College for infrastructure strengthening, re-iterated his government’s commitment to improvement of educational infrastructure in the state and sought assistance from the social and educational organizations like Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) to help the government achieve the desired results. He said in this age of competitiveness, the required reforms and changes were to be made to make the education more job and profession-oriented.

Earlier KCGC President Satyajit Singh Majithia welcomed Badal and praised him for making history of becoming youngest and now the oldest chief minister of a state in the country and said it was all due to his pro-people policies and vision of future. He called CM as a great old politician who has been a statesman and a man of intellect and how the reins of the state were safe in his hands.

Badal made the whole atmosphere hilarious when he virtually confessed that due to his interest in politics he could not study much but the students must aim higher and study more in their life. Khalsa College Principal Dr. Daljit Singh read the annual report describing achievements of the College and narrated major milestones that the College accomplished in academics, sports, culture and other related matters including publication of books, conducting seminars and workshops and setting up new centres of learning.
